Calabar boat mishap: 29 rescued so far – Emergency official

Emergency official on Thursday said twenty-nine people, including two who survived by clinging to a cooking gas cylinder, have been rescued after a boat capsized off Malabo, Equatorial Guinea waterways, about 40 nautical miles off the coast of Calabar, Cross River State, last week with about 166 people on board.

According to the head of Cross Rivers State Emergency Management Agency, Vincent Aquah: “We have 29 survivors so far from the (Friday) boat accident.”
According to eyewitnesses, the passengers were travelling in a ‘giant-sized wooden boat’ from Oron in Akwa Ibom State to Gabon, when it capsized on the Malabo waterways.
